melodies from Corelli’s ‘La Foglia’and Paganini’s ‘Caprice’. The title ‘Violinissimo’ was coined by ITO meaning ‘Very Violin-like’ |

Written for the International Youth Wind Orchestra conducted by ITO at World Association for Symphonic Band and ensemble in Singapore in 2005.

The Earth
Commissioned by Rocky Mountain High School Band (Colorado, USA). This is a movement from the ‘Planets’ Trilogy for Band.

Adagio
Commissioned by Tamagawa junior high and high school band. The origin of the word ‘Adagio’ is Latin ‘ad’ means ‘toward’ and ‘agio’ is ‘quietness’ or ‘peace’. Hence the title implies a motion ‘toward peace’

Festeggiamo e cantiamo
Commisioned by the Band Association of Toyama prefecture, Japan, for celebrating its 40th anniversary. Taking ‘birth’ as a theme, the piece uses the melodies from the Hymn No.111, ‘Adeste Fideles’ and ITO’s original song, ‘Happy Birthday’

Beethoven for Us
Written for a Music Festival at Shiga Kenmin-Geijutsu-Souzoukan in 2006. Composed to allow the audience sing or play the ‘Ode to Joy’ theme from the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven.

Based on a folk song of the Okinawa region called
‘Asadoya-Yunta’, this piece was written originally for two pianos for eight hands.
